Freelance
paralegal and legal assistant
- Variety of assignments and legal specialties between
Arizona and Colorado. Most of my 11 year Colorado experience is bankruptcy, litigation and transactional.
- Clients generally contact me through referrals.
I am blessed that many are now friends.
- Work
variety is too voluminous to list. Here’s the CliffsNotes version:
- Lots and lots of legal documents to draft,
edit and prepare. As you can imagine, I have considerable proofreading and editing experience.
- Attendance at trials, mediations and hearings.
- Witness interviews and client interaction.
- Diligence in all phases
of a case from inception to completion.
- With
all of this legal background, I play nicely in the sandbox with the most interesting personality types.
Legal video operator/owner
- Such a fun business to own in Arizona. During
this 10-year engagement, I captured the lion’s share of the legal video market.
- I recorded hundreds of depositions,
worked with as many attorneys nationally and locally, had so many interesting assignments, and was invited to speak for a
career day or two at local high schools.
- In addition
to depositions, I recorded documentaries, wills, mock trials, focus groups, and video statements. Appearances
in court were common.
- The Smithsonian
Institute hired me to audio record repatriation hearings with certain Arizona Indian tribes. This required
a great deal of cultural sensitivity and professionalism amidst these highly emotional hearings.
Special projects assistant (this also applies to events)
- This
part-time, intern-type position was offered to me during an informational meeting with a local continuing legal education
organization.
- The ED created a new position so I could learn the conference industry.
To him, I say thank you for the experience and his patience.
- The assignments:
- They began as your normal entry-level duties.
- I assisted many of the departments when they needed a third hand.
- My audio
production skills were utilized in attorney conferences in Breckenridge, Vail and Steamboat.
- Later, I sought permission to create paralegal
conferences. Working with a mentor and prominent leaders in Denver, we developed a series of programs for
the Colorado paralegal community. The litigation conference oversold
by 50%.
- My public speaking talents came in handy.
